The annual Amarnath Yatra faced disruption on Friday as officials suspended pilgrim movement from the Baltal route due to severe weather conditions. The suspension allows for vital repair work on the track, ensuring safety for devotees.
Heavy rains battered the Baltal area on Thursday night, causing a minor flash flood at one specific location. Fortunately, authorities reported no loss of life or damage to property. The decision to suspend the yatra from the Baltal route stems from the need to address the adverse weather conditions, as well as ongoing necessary repairs.
Officials confirmed that, at present, no pilgrims are permitted to proceed towards the revered cave shrine of Amarnath from the Baltal route. Currently, repair activities are active to restore safety and accessibility.
The yatra, which began on July 3, continues to draw large crowds, with approximately 4.5 lakh devotees visiting the shrine that houses the naturally formed ice lingam. Each year, this sacred pilgrimage is an important spiritual journey for many.
As per the schedule, the yatra is set to conclude on August 28, coinciding with the celebration of Raksha Bandhan. Authorities urge devotees to stay updated on the current situation and heed safety regulations as they plan their pilgrimage.
