Farooq Abdullah: Operation Sindoor Successful, War Unsustainable

National Conference president Farooq Abdullah stated on Wednesday that ‘Operation Sindoor’ has yielded positive outcomes, yet he cautioned that wars do not present lasting solutions, merely causing further distress. Abdullah expressed these views during a press conference at the party headquarters in Jammu.

Abdullah remarked, “Operation Sindoor has paid its dividends. I think there is no more question of wars. Wars do not bring a solution, they just bring misery. Look at Ukraine and the destruction there, look at the Middle East. Look at the situation of gas supplies here. It will take Qatar a year or two to restore gas supplies,” underscoring the global implications of ongoing conflicts.

Discussing the situation in the Gulf, the former chief minister emphasized the adverse economic conditions affecting countries globally, stating, “Don’t panic, the world isn’t ready for war. Economic conditions of every country are already bad, and no country wants war. The Middle East has most of the oil and gas, and if pressure continues, then the situation in the world will be so bad that it will be difficult to survive.”

On the topic of the recent assembly election outcomes, Abdullah responded candidly when asked about their implications. He stated, “How will I see, I see it like you are seeing. The results have come, Mamata Banerjee is not accepting the results; she says there was huge rigging. This is the situation in Bengal. Tamil Nadu is getting a new government. Congress won in Kerala, the BJP won in Assam. What else is there?” His comments reflect the turbulent political climate prevailing in various Indian states.

When quizzed about the potential impact of the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, he acknowledged, “There was an impact of everything.” Furthermore, Abdullah voiced confidence in the existing opposition INDIA bloc, asserting that it remains robust and united.

Addressing the alarming increase in incidents of violence, particularly the blasts in Punjab, Abdullah remarked that such occurrences have been part of India’s recent history. “You should not panic,” he advised, indicating that while the media highlights these incidents, they should not provoke undue fear.

Responding to the ongoing criticism of the NC government in Jammu and Kashmir, Abdullah welcomed the scrutiny, stating, “If they don’t, how will they survive? Let them say what they want. Our party is working the way it has to, and we will continue to do so.”

This conference highlights not only Abdullah’s perspectives on crucial national and international matters but also reflects his continued engagement with both party dynamics and the socio-political landscape of India. His insights into war, electoral politics, and opposition unity offer an essential viewpoint as the country navigates its complex challenges in a transforming global environment.
