New District Committee Visits Changthang Region, engages with locals residents and leaders of Durbuk Subdivision

Tangtse, October 23, 2024: The New District Committee began its tour of the Changthang region today starting with a visit to Durbuk Sub Division. A committee was formed to assess the creation of five new districts in Ladakh – Sham, Nubra, Changthang, Zanskar, and Drass chaired by Sh. Pramod Kumar Jain, IAS (Retd.). The committee includes members Sh. Kacho Asfandyar Khan, IAS (Retd.), Sh. Tsering Angchok, IAS (Retd.), Deputy Commissioner, Leh and Deputy Commissioner, Kargil.

During their visit, the committee held a meeting at the Tangtse community hall, engaging with local residents, councillors, former councillors, village leaders and the SDM. The committee courteously listened to the concerns and opinions of local delegations.

Chairman Pramod Kumar Jain assured the community that the committee would conduct a thorough study of their concerns and needs, considering all feedback. He expressed gratitude for the warm welcome from local residents.

This development follows the Ministry of Home Affairs’ “in-principle approval” for the creation of new districts in Ladakh, aiming to enhance governance and ensure government services reach remote areas.
