Amit Shah Says J&K Nearing Lasting Peace; Violence Down Over 80% Since Article 370 Abrogation

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday asserted that Jammu and Kashmir is steadily moving towards lasting peace, highlighting a significant decline in incidents of violence since the abrogation of Article 370.

Addressing the 79th Raising Day celebrations of the Delhi Police, Shah said India’s internal security landscape has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past decade. He noted that violence in Jammu and Kashmir, the Northeast, and Left Wing Extremism-affected areas has reduced by more than 80 percent.

“The day is not far when these regions will be completely free from violence. Maoism will be eradicated from the country by March 31, 2026,” he said.

During the event, Shah also e-inaugurated the newly constructed Delhi Police Special Cell Integrated Headquarters, built at an estimated cost of Rs 375 crore. He described the facility as the country’s most advanced anti-narcotics and anti-terrorism centre, stating that it would serve as a benchmark for police forces across India.

Highlighting reforms in the criminal justice system, the Home Minister said that with the full implementation of the three new criminal laws over the next two years, the time from FIR registration to the Supreme Court’s final verdict would be reduced to less than three years. He added that terrorism has now been clearly defined under criminal law, enabling stronger and more effective legal action.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to national security, Shah emphasized that sustained peace, stability, and development in Jammu and Kashmir remain key priorities.
