Rahul Gandhi Claims Every Sixth BJP MP Won Through Vote Chori

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi claimed that every sixth BJP MP in the Lok Sabha won their seat through vote chori (vote theft) on Wednesday. His remarks have sparked controversy as he labels these politicians ‘ghuspethiya’, a term frequently used in BJP’s own parlance. Gandhi made these statements amidst growing concerns over election integrity in India.

During a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, Gandhi asserted, “Out of the 240 BJP MPs in the Lok Sabha, approximately every sixth secured their seat through vote theft.” He challenged the credibility of the BJP, stating that if free and fair elections occurred, the party would struggle to retain even 140 seats.

“Through vote theft, sometimes individual seats are stolen, and at other times, an entire government. They are not hard to identify – should we, in the BJP’s own parlance, label them ‘ghuspethiya’? And what of Haryana? There, the entire government itself is an ‘ghuspethiya’,” he said, delivering a scathing critique of the ruling party.

Gandhi further accused the BJP of manipulating electoral institutions to distort voter lists, asserting that these entities operate under remote control. His statements come in the wake of mounting evidence and allegations regarding electoral malpractice across various states.

He reinforced his stance on unfair elections by stating, “Their real fear is the truth. For if fair elections were to be held, they would not be able to win even 140 seats today.” This assertion challenges the legitimacy of the BJP’s electoral success.

On Tuesday, Gandhi characterized recent victories by the BJP in the Bengal and Assam assembly polls as a “theft” of the democratic mandate. He argued that such actions contribute to the BJP’s goal to “destroy” Indian democracy. His support for the TMC, which lost its grip on power in Bengal, signals a broader concern for the integrity of democracy in India.

“Some in the Congress, and others, are gloating about TMC’s loss. They need to understand this clearly – the theft of Assam and Bengal’s mandate is a big step forward by the BJP in its mission to destroy Indian democracy,” he urged in another post on X.

Following the assembly poll results announced on Monday, the BJP successfully ousted the Trinamool Congress from power in Bengal while also claiming victory for the third consecutive time in Assam.

Gandhi’s comments reflect a deepening rift between the BJP and the Congress Party, especially as the nation gears up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024. Voters are increasingly concerned about the integrity of the electoral process, and Gandhi’s allegations only add fuel to this growing apprehension.

Political analysts suggest that Gandhi’s critique may resonate with voters disillusioned with the ruling party, especially those fearful of a perceived decline in democratic values. As the political landscape in India evolves, the call for transparency and accountability in elections remains more critical than ever.

In the context of these assertions, the BJP has not yet responded publicly to Gandhi’s claims. It will be interesting to see if this narrative influences voter sentiment as the campaign heats up for the next general elections.
