Opposition MPs Protest Theft of Ram Temple Donations in Parliament

Opposition MPs, including Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, staged a protest on Tuesday in the Parliament House complex. They voiced their concerns over the alleged theft of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya and condemned police actions against student protesters.

The MPs displayed placards against the government while protesting at the Makar Dwar of Parliament. Slogans such as ‘chhanda chor, gaddi chor’ and ‘Amit Shah jawaab do’ resonated in the air as the opposition united for the cause.

They also set up donation boxes to symbolize the alleged misappropriation of funds meant for the Ram temple. Lining up around these boxes, they raised their voices against the government’s inaction, with several MPs putting cash into the box to represent the donations and highlight the alleged subsequent theft.

Key figures in the protest included Priyanka Gandhi, Samajwadi Party’s Dimple Yadav and Dharmendra Yadav, Trinamool Congress’s Sagarika Ghose, and RJD’s Sanjay Yadav and Manoj Jha, alongside RSP’s N.K. Premchandran.

Behind a large banner that questioned ‘Why Amit Shah absent from Parliament’, the protesting MPs intensified their call for accountability from the Home Minister. They collectively demanded transparency regarding the alleged theft of donations raised for the Ram temple.

The opposition coalition, known as the INDIA bloc, has committed to pressing the government over these serious allegations of donation theft at the Ram temple. Additionally, they condemned what they termed “brutal force” used against students during their protests held last week, further galvanizing their resolve.

This protest follows a series of incidents whereby students faced police action, raising further questions about the government’s approach to dissent and student rights. The INDIA bloc parties’ floor leaders convened in Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge’s chamber to strategize on how to effectively bring these issues to the forefront of parliamentary discussions.

The pressing matter of theft at the Ram temple and police measures against peaceful student demonstrators spotlight significant issues within India’s current political landscape, igniting widespread debate on governance and civil rights.

Understanding these dynamics is crucial as they directly influence the political discourse in India today, casting a spotlight on accountability and the voices of dissent within the country.
